| Fletcher 2 Cottage on Metcalf Pond (Near Smugglers Notch) |
|
This cottage is on a scenic Vermont lake, surrounded by some of Vermont's most beautiful countryside. It's a lovely spot for fishing, swimming, and canoeing. The lake frontage comes right up to the attractive side yard. The water is shallow for a long distance from shore, so it is a safe swimming area for young children under adult supervision. It's also a good spot for launching a small boat. Your choice of a rowboat or paddle boat is available. The cottage is a short drive from Smugglers Notch, best known for skiing in winter but also a four-season resort area. You can also tour the local winery in nearby Cambridge, visit the corn maze, ride a horse from the nearby stable, or drive a little farther to enjoy Vermont's many other attraction, some of which are listed on our Vermont Links page. The cottage is owned by our friends Norma and Ken Atherton, who have authorized us to take reservations. Rentals are weekly, Sunday afternoon to the next Sunday morning. Would you like to be notified if any specific date opens up because of a cancellation? Please e-mail us with your request. Dates marked in red are not available at this time.
The cottage is a single-story structure with conveniently laid-out living and dining area and a small but well-equipped kitchen. There are two bedroomsone with a full-size bed and another with twin beds, so it is ideal for up to four people. If you need extra sleeping space for guests, there is also a day bed and a love-seat/couch. The living space is both cozy and flexible for varying situations. Outside is a lovely yard, with both a fire pit (for bonfires) and a charcoal grill. The lawn borders on the lake for easy access for swimming or boating. Your hosts will provide the same level of hospitality that we provide at our own cottages in Fletcher and Hinesburg. The refrigerator and cupboards are stocked with miscellaneous food items, particularly appropriate for breakfasts, as well as staples such as condiments, so that you can relax upon arrival, with no pressure to stock up with groceries right away. The cottage is completely furnished, including dishes, towels, linens, etc. Nobody will intrude on your privacy to change the sheets or make the beds during your stay, but you'll find plenty of extra linens. The television has a satellite hookup, so you can view a wide range of channels. The telephone service allows outgoing direct-dial calls only within Vermont, so if you need to call elsewhere, it is best to use a calling card or call collect. Incoming calls, of course, can come from anywhere. We do not make the telephone number public on our Web site, in order to protect guests from unwanted calls. However, if you make reservations and want the number to give to family and friends before you leave home, we will, of course, be happy to provide it. Pets are welcome, as long as they are kept under control by their owners. Please do not bring pets that may disturb the neighbors, either with noise or physical threats. If your pet causes damage to the property, you will be expected to assume full responsibility and pay for repairs. With those caveats, this is a pet-friendly cottage in a pet-friendly neighborhood. If you smoke, we ask that you step outside before lighting up. The cottage rents for $575 per week. We prefer to rent by the week (or multiple weeks) although there may possibly be very occasional exceptions. The weekly reservations go from Sunday to Sunday. Reservations may be secured with a nonrefundable minimum deposit of $100, payable by credit card or check. For multiple weeks, the deposit is $100 per week. We ask that you not make reservations until your plans are firm. Once a reservation is confirmed, we no longer make those dates available, so we turn down anybody else who inquires, and lose other opportunities for rental. Check-in is any time after 3 p.m. on Sunday, and check-out any time until 11 a.m. the following Sunday. There is sometimes some flexibility in this, depending on the schedules of guests who have reserved the dates before and after your visit. The prices include all utilities (electricity and telephone, although we request reimbursement for long-distance calls). A plentiful supply of clean sheets and towels is provided. If you secure reservations with a credit card, our usual procedure is to charge the balance to the same card, no more than a day before your scheduled arrival. If you prefer to pay by check or another card, let us know. It is easiest for us to do the bookkeeping prior to your arrival, and have a receipt for you on arrival. Therefore, if you pay the balance by check, we ask that you mail it to us using the following address: Lisa Carlson If your plans change and you decide to cancel, we will make every effort to find others to rent for that period. In some cases, we will be able to make arrangements at a reduced rate. Whatever rent is collected from others (minus the deposit) will be deducted from the amount you owe. Reservations may be made by phone (802-482-2988 or 1-800-310-8320) or by exchanging e-mail with us at cottage@upperaccess.com. If you pay by credit card (as the majority of our guests do), it is usually most convenient to provide the credit-card information by telephone. To Pay Your Deposit On Line...If you prefer to pay your $100 deposit on-line by credit card, we have set up a secure order form for that purpose. Click here for the on-line payment page. This will charge your account right away while you are on-line, so before doing so, please be sure to confirm the reservation by phone or e-mail. Keep in mind that our credit-card gateway is designed mainly to take book orders for our home business. Therefore, it'll ask about a shipping charge; but choose the option for rentals that avoids the shipping charge. If anything gets confusing, remember that you can always make your credit-card payment by phone, at 802-482-2988 or (from most locations) toll-free at 1-800-310-8320. The phone numbers are secure land lines to our home office, and we answer during extended hours weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Our Other Cottages...We also have additional rental cottages, both in Fletcher and near our home on Lake Iroquois in Hinesburg, Vermont, a short drive from Burlington.
